Course Justification
Construction claims are a prevalent issue in the industry, often leading to significant delays and cost overruns. Managing these claims effectively requires specialised skills that essentially exceed traditional construction expertise. This advanced course of study aims to fill the existing skills gap in claims analysis in relation to four claim heads, which are often found to be complex by nature, i.e. disruption, acceleration, suspension, termination claim
By enrolling in this course, prospective students will gain the expertise needed to handle intricate construction claims proactively. They will be equipped with the necessary tools and means to establish the eligibility and quantum.
Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive understanding and application of advanced construction claims encompassing both theoretical concepts and practical examples. The course content covers the management of four intricate claim types and examines relevant legal cases. It is designed to be engaging and interactive, comprising 18 hours of lectures, dynamic group discussions and collaborative group activities.
Various evaluation methods are employed to assess students' understanding and progress. These include module-end examinations to assess knowledge retention and serve as a teaching tool through feedback and assignments to encourage critical thinking and analysis. Peer review is also incorporated to help students learn from their peers' management of claims and identify shortfalls and areas of improvement.
By integrating these diverse assessments and teaching methods, the course ensures a comprehensive evaluation of student's mastery of advanced claim management and their ability to apply them in real-world scenarios.
Aim: To accurately calculate time and cost claims for effective management of advanced construction claims.
Course Outcome:
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Who Should Attend: Quantity Surveyors who wish to obtain mystery in claims/Contract Administrators/Commercial managers/ Site engineers/ Planning engineers and academics who wish to obtain added experience in teaching claims and contracts-related modules, training in claims and mentoring students projects and dissertations.
Minimum Entry Qualification:
- A minimum of Certificate-level qualification directly related to a professional discipline in the construction industry and
- A minimum of 3 years experience as a quantity surveyor, contract administrator, or in a directly related discipline
